    Weight Loss Injections

We’ve received a number of enquiries recently following media coverage of Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) and Ozempic (Semaglutide).

To be considered for treatment in the future, patients will need to meet all of the following criteria:

    BMI over 40

OR BMI over 37.5 for individuals from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African, or African-Caribbean backgrounds

At least 4 out of 5 of the following conditions:

    Hypertension
    Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease

    Obstructive sleep apnoea
    Dyslipidaemia
    Type 2 diabetes

    What this means for patients:

If you do not meet the criteria, we are unable to book appointments to discuss weight loss injections at this stage.

For those considering private treatment, please contact providers directly. Unfortunately, we are unable to advise on private access, providers, or monitoring of private treatment.

New weight loss medication and Contraception

    Advice re: contraception

If you are using tirzepatide you should use a barrier method of contraception (e.g. condoms) in addition to your pill for four weeks after starting the medication, and for four weeks after any increase in dose. This is because tirzepatide works slightly differently to the other GLP-1 agonists. Alternatively, you may wish to consider another (non-oral) method of contraception whilst using tirzepatide.
There is currently no evidence that semaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide, dulaglutide or lixisenatide reduce the effectiveness of oral contraception (i.e. the combined pill, or the progestogen only pill/ “mini-pill”)

    Smear Update

From 1 July 2025, routine cervical screening intervals will be extended from 3 to 5 years for participants aged 25-49 who test negative after attending cervical screening on or after this date.

1st July 2025 – anyone who is screened on or after this date, and tests negative for HPV, will move to 5 yearly screening unless previous screening history suggests they should be screened more regularly. If you are being screened before 1 July 2025 and test negative for HPV, you will stay on the current 3 yearly recall until you’re next due a screen in 3 years’ time.
